Palace and Gardens at Versailles

Our morning started same as always: early and with a belly bursting with generously buttered-baguettes. Off we went on our first RER adventure for a trip to Versailles. The train was easy enough to figure out... until they stopped at a station a few stops before ours, said something in French over the intercom, and started moving in the opposite direction... I knew all the people getting off the train knew something we didn't. There were maybe 10 people left on the whole train- when we stepped off at the next stop, it was clear they were all confused Americans trying to make it to Versailles. But we figured it all out and finally made it to the long line in front of the Palace gates, through security, and into the Palace (where we of course snagged audioguides. Unfortunately, we found out Ashley's didn't work once we got to the top of a crowded spiral staircase... we just shared the entire time).

Every inch of the palace was meticulously detailed in ornate decor- Louis XIV was a little over the top if you ask me. After a tour of the palace, we wandered the gardens for a few hours. A few of the paths reminded me of the Triwizard Cup maze in Harry Potter with it's high geometric hedges rising well above our heads.

Back in the city, we headed to the Sacre Couer for the last time, split some crepes of course, and enjoyed the weather. On our walk to the metro, we found the coolest chocolate shop where we admire the chocolate art and bought the smallest amount of chocolate anyone has probablu ever purchased in that place as a little dessert for our picnic the next day!
