Samosas With the Compound Kids

After finishing dinner on Saturday night, Jeni and I got all set to watch The Emperor's New Groove on Netflix (yes, we are super cool people with very exciting social lives... ) when our fellow Pechuga-compound -kid, Ashley from Maine, came over to see if we wanted to try some Indian food she and another compound-kid, Ankit from Nepal, made.

We of course took the offer and the samosas with tamarind chutney were delicious!!! After sampling, we were somehow coerced into helping them make more... They made a hug pot of filling for the samosas in order to make enough for a party they were supposed to go to but then they got lazy and didn't want to go to the party, so we made and ate as many as we could and they save the rest for the next few days... like Thanksgiving turkey in the states :)

Below are some pictures of Jeni and I's private cooking lesson!

Ankit mixing and kneading the dough: flower, hot water, salt, sugar, oil.
In background: huge pot of boiled potatoes, red onion, tomatoes, and cilantro to fill the dough. Once kneaded, roll the dough out into small circles, cut in half, make each half into a cone, and packed the cone with copious amounts of the delicious filling. Pinch the top of the cone together.

Into the frying pan! Heat oil, throw the samosas in.

Brown each side until crispy golden.

Dab off excess oil, make/buy tamarind chutney (we arrived too late for that tutorial...), serve and EAT!

After our feast with delicious black tea from Nepal, we got back to our movie on Netflix. Great night!
