piña part 2: If you like piña coladas!

After touring the fields to learn about the plants and watch a harvest in process, we got a tour of the washing and packing facility: but not before getting these super sweet hair nets to wear... cafeteria worker couture

 

After they are washed, the rejects get thrown to the side to make pineapple juice and the good ones go inside to be boxed. If the crown is crooked it is rejected, same goes for too big, too small, any insects, etc.

Inside, they are randonly stuffed into boxes labeled Whole Foods, Dole, Corsicanna, and one more I forgot... The Whole Foods boxes had the USDA certified organic stamp,  Rain Forest Alliance stamp, and Fair Trade stamp.

At the very end of the tour they gave us samples of the pineapple, some pineapple cake, and our own pineapples hollowed out and filled with a delicious coconut pineapple drink. YUM!
