Monteverde: Santa Elena Cloud Forest

On our second day in Monteverde we decided to go to the Santa Elena reserve for a hike. We arrived at 7am and chose the two longest trails. We started out in pants and long sleeves but gradually warmed up as the sun burned off some clouds and ended up in shorts and a t-shirt. Although we did not see much wildlife (a few hummingbirds, birds, and insects) we could hear them all around us. Everything about the forest was magical: the mist, the sound of birds echoing through the tall moss covered trees, tiny flowers, the viewpoint, the river winding through the trails... definitely a great way to end my stay here in Costa Rica!

We spent 4 hours at Santa Elena, caught the bus back to town where we gorged ourselves on Taco Taco one last time, then waited around for the bus. Thankfully, the bus ride back was less "eventful" than the one going to Monteverde.

Taco Taco... YUM.
